It’s only been three months, and we’ve already seen some remarkable audio gear hit the market. Right from Marshall’s high-end portable Bluetooth party speaker and JBL’s On-The-Go 2 Plus Speaker to the Spotify × Liquid Death Music-Streaming Urn and TDM’s headphone and speaker, there’s something for every kind of audiophile. If there was one thing missing from the lot, it was an old-school boombox, and it seems California-based audio brand Bumpboxx has plugged that gap with the launch of the BB-777.
The makers describe the music machine as “a high-powered portable boombox that unites classic analog formats with modern digital performance in one fully integrated sound system.” The new portable system combines multiple playback formats into one unit, supporting cassette, CD, radio, USB, and Bluetooth, negating the requirement for separate devices should you choose to carry it around.
Currently the subject of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, the BB-777 makers admit that it draws direct inspiration from the iconic Sharp GF-series units of the early 1980s, while packing enough modern technology to remain firmly relevant in 2026. When it comes to key specs and hardware, the unit features a three-way, six-driver setup delivering 270 watts of power, with the speaker array occupying the entire lower third of the front panel. That configuration includes dual 6.25-inch coaxial drivers, two 6.25-inch super woofers, and a pair of horn tweeters, all backed by a fan-cooled amplifier.
Weighing 28 lbs, the BB-777 packs dual cassette decks that allow for playback, recording, and high-speed dubbing, while a CD player handles standard audio discs as well as CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded media. The BB-777 can also digitise old tapes and CDs, sending audio directly to a computer as WAV files via USB. Other features include radio coverage that spans AM, FM, and shortwave, and Bluetooth enables wireless streaming from smartphones and tablets.
Two units can be wirelessly paired for a full stereo playback. In the retro mix, a 4.5-inch LCD handles navigation across the device’s many modes, while onboard microphones and dual wired mic inputs round out a surprisingly versatile feature set.

The unit comes with an interchangeable lithium-ion battery pack that supports up to 15 hours of use. The makers point out that it is TSA-approved, meaning it can travel with its owner. The Kickstarter campaign has already raised over $3.8 million and counting, reflecting strong market appetite for the device. Early backers can reserve the BB-777 for $649, against a planned retail price of $1,049, with the first batch set to ship in June 2026.
