If you are out in the hunt to buy your little feline a perfect warm house this winter, Neko Chigura Kai‘s cat cradles could have just been the perfect gift. But sadly given their demand, you may not be able to purchase one this winter. In case you are not in any kind of hurry then you can order one of these lovely cat cradles from Neko Chigura website – although it takes only a week to produce one of these cat cradles, the current waiting time for a single order to be delivered is approximately one year.
Don’t go time traveling into the future, come to reality. These cat cradles are made from soft inewara rice-straws in Sekikawa on the northwestern coast of Honshu, Japan. A team of 30 weavers known as the Neko Chigura Kai (cat cradle committee), take around a week to build one of these beautiful cat houses, called the Chigura cradles (sometimes known as tsugura).
The Chigura cradle cat houses are especially liked by cats because not only do the cradles provide warmth and comfort that cats so desire, but also gives them something awesome to dig the claws into when doing nothing constructive.
A standard Chigura cat cradle measures 20cm and costs 5,000 yen (approx. $60) while a more luxury cat house can cost 18,000 Yen ( approx. $220) measuring 45cm, good enough to house two adult cats.
