During my journalism studies at university, one of the key elements of news that I was often taught about was oddity. So, if you are a journalist constantly in the hunt for groundbreaking stories, ‘oddity’ is the Messiah that will keep you in the good books of your Bureau Chief. Scouring such hidden gems is a challenge but once you succeed in doing so, it is destined to break the internet. Hat tip to XDA (who first broke the story) courtesy of whom, I found a newsworthy piece that perfectly fits this category.

The viral piece is about Nerdforge, a YouTube channel by Norwegian couple Martina and Hansi. The DIYer duo has made a PC that doubles as a coffee grinder. Channeling their notorious instincts, Martina had the idea to create this custom-built PC by integrating a coffee machine into a Corsair 1000D chassis.

Surprisingly, the unique build not only functions as a computer but also brews coffee with the push of a button. I mean, who in the world could even dream of integrating a coffee maker into a PC case? And if someone dared to do so, the result was worth spilling beans. The process began by disassembling a coffee grinder and maker, stripping it down to the bare essentials. Another step involved integrating these pieces into the PC case and connecting them to an Arduino for precise control and synchronization. To prevent potential mishaps, sensors were implemented to ensure a coffee cup was in place before brewing began.

Another hard part of the project was to enhance the PC’s visual appeal. For this, Martina used paint stirring sticks and decked it in and out of the PC. She further utilized LED lights and a planter to give a nice and warm glow to the rig.

While the concept is garnering a lot of online acclaim, few have expressed concerns about potential issues such as humidity and dust accumulation within the PC. Answering the critics, Martina has reassured that these challenges were addressed through the computer’s air cooling system and her commitment to using and reviewing the device for daily coffee-making duties. For the time being, the duo is reveling in the whirlwind of success this custom-built PC-cum-Coffee Maker has turned out to be!
