Coolers are always in demand during summer, but true innovations are rare. You might remember Solo Stove’s Windchill 47 with built-in AC or Ninja’s clever backpack cooler that offered clever design and functionality. Now, Sweden-based brand Dometic has come up with the Recon collection of portable hard- and soft-sided coolers that are designed to neatly fit into your vehicle like LEGO bricks. You can place them side by side or stack over each other, and even leave out the ones you do not need. They are designed to give you more flexibility and save space in your vehicle.
As noted by New Atlas, the hard-sided coolers are built to stack securely with lid depressions that align perfectly with the non-slip feet of the cooler above. Folding handles recess into the sides create flush surfaces for clean side-by-side storage without wasted space. Available in sizes ranging from 16 to 69 liters (holding 18 to 100 cans without ice), these models offer up to eight days of cold retention.
The hard cooler lid is designed for flexibility as it can be opened in multiple directions or removed entirely for easier loading and access to contents inside. Dometic also offers a spigot attachment that connects to the drain plug, allowing the cooler to double as a portable water dispenser.

On the other hand, the soft-sided Recon coolers come in sizes ranging from 12 to 21 liters (holding 19 to 35 cans). They are specially designed to fit into tight vehicle spaces like backseats and footwells. Featuring zipper-free lids with dual-hinge latches that open from either side, these coolers also offer easy access. They come with a reinforced solid base and abrasion-resistant 840D nylon TPU-coated outer shell to ensure protection and durability.
The Recon portable cooler lineup also supports a variety of modular accessories – such as dividers, baskets, lights, totes, faucets, and ice blocks that let you customize and upgrade your cooler system over time. These add-ons make it easy to tailor the coolers to your specific needs. The Recon coolers are now available for purchase, with prices ranging from $225 to $425.
