US start-up founded by Chelsea Briganti and Leigh Ann Tucker, product designers who are working on biodegradable products, has launched an edible range of cups called Loliware. The designer duo has created this edible cup series to reduce the amount of disposable packaging discarded at many events.

For years, they have been experimenting with different materials to create cups that look like a glass and also serve the same purpose. But the good thing about the cups is that these can be eaten up once you’ve finished your beverage.

Made from a seaweed-based gel, the cups settle on agar to form a firm structure. Furthermore, to make it taste good the designers have added organic sweeteners, and fruit and vegetable extracts to the gel-formed cups. Plus, coloring and flavoring ingredients are also added into the vessels so that the users can drink beverages in their favorite flavored cups.

The FDA-approved collection comes in five different flavored cups. These edible cups are enticing kitchen accessories for home chefs, professional chefs, food designers or cocktail mixologists. Undoubtedly, the user will enjoy drinking in these sweet-flavored cups.

Well, edible tableware is not a new concept in the world. We’ve already seen several tableware designs that can be eaten up after use. The innovative initiative gained popularity over the past few years, in order to reduce landfills wastage.

After these edible cups, Loliware will be working on expanding its cup line, straws, and functional food extras. The startup will also be introducing a new range of edible water bottles.
