Jeffrey A Day of Seattle-based furniture and design shop Day-Studios creates compelling modern furniture using traditional craftsmanship and contemporary manufacturing techniques. Drops Coffee Table is one of his compelling furniture designs that won A’Design Award in furniture, decorative items and homeware category in 2015-2016. He got inspiration for the furniture project from the fascinating visualizations formed when raindrops hit a pond’s surface.

This wooden table features uniquely crafted support frames and top surface visualizing a drop-shaped portion. Its support structure is made using 32mm wood, while 38mm wood is used for the top surface. Seventeen individual wooden pieces are used to make a complete unit of this furniture piece.

Two appealing drops on the top surface are sculpted using CNC router, and dowel joints are used to give strength and durability to the whole structure. The intensely designed legs and raindrops engraved on the hard wooden surface of Drops table captures attention at first sight.  The suspended motion of raindrops is derived using variable radius throughout the rails and stiles of the table.

The Drop coffee table is visually-tempting and contemporary furniture for homes.  It is available in maple, cherry and walnut versions and can be bought for $2,400 at Day-Studios.
