Gardening lovers have quite a variety of pots to choose from, and now a safer and cuter option has also entered the race. Atelier LVDW has designed the Eggshell Re-Planter, which is made from repurposed consumer eggshells. The planters are designed as a growing cup that releases essential nutrients back into the earth.

The Eggshell Re-Planter is created from a unique Eggshell Ceramic material, a circular material that has become the signature of the Atelier LVDW design studio. The pots are rich in calcium carbonate, a valuable nutrient for plants and the soil. The planter releases these nutrients back into the earth during repotting, enriching the soil and supporting plant growth.

Each planter has enough calcium for 0.5 square meters of land. It takes the eggshells three to four weeks to release into humid soil. The inside and base of the planter are coated with natural materials, which biodegrade over nine to 11 months. The coating becomes softer during this process, making it easier for the roots to pop through the base of the planter, while soaking up the nutrient-rich pot material for its growth.

The planter also acts as a container for indoor plants due to its small structure. It is durable, thanks to the water resistance and strength of the bio-material. Besides it being a sustainable option, the planter also encourages the cultivation of homegrown plants and vegetables. This in turn reduces food waste as it returns nutrients into the earth.

Each of the planters is handcrafted and is therefore different from one another. The designer uses biodegradable materials like madder root, indigo, and biochar to add different colors to the pots. The buyer can get their Eggshell Re-Planter customized according to their wish.
