Celebrating the power of collaboration, the Ensemble seating collection is a brainchild of Lisbon-based designer Sam Baron and eight enthusiastic team members of London and New York-based De La Espada Atelier. The team worked closely with Sam Baron, who nurtured experimentation with form and function, individual expression, and experience to bring this project to life.
After exploring distinctive ideas through sketches, the team considered every aspect of good furniture and how it can be a meeting point for gathering and connection, resulting in a masterfully crafted Ensemble seating collection of six versatile pieces. The furniture collection consists of sculptural chairs, stools, a daybed, and a sofa. Each piece in this collection emits a feeling of resting in the forest.
“Each Ensemble product can stand alone, but when brought together, they create a space that makes you feel small, like being immersed in a forest,” David Taipina, of De La Espada Atelier, told Homecrux.
Exhibited at the Lisbon by Design fair, every aspect of the collection is rooted in nature, from material to feeling. Crafted from solid walnut and ceramics, every piece of furniture is an organic reflection of the form and geometry of a tree trunk. Let’s explore the furniture collection below.
Musgo Sofa
Versatile Musgo sofa flaunts a curvilinear form, allowing the users to access the sofa from every possible angle. In this heartening display of form and material, the wavy curves of upholstery resembling plant life hug an integrated solid wood stool. Encouraging exploration, this sofa is a meeting point of relaxation and decent support. Crafted from Danish oiled walnut, brown saddle leather, and a specially selected textile, adding this to your home decor will bring the elements of nature into your space.

Toro Daybed
Meet the unconventional daybed with an inviting form to relax and gather. There is a space for lounging solo or with friends, fostering connection. According to the designers, the form of this daybed resembles the forest floor, evoking a sense of calm and peace. It is crafted from Danish oiled walnut, brown saddle leather, and a specially selected textile.

Escarpa High-Back Upholstered Chair
High and mighty, this high-back upholstered chair is brimming with texture and form. The chair’s 9-foot-tall wooden backrest is dotted with Verde Viana marble, whereas the lush green upholstery on its inner side evokes a memory of an enchanting forest. The chair features a combination of sensuality and an imposing height.

Tronco High-Back Chair
Majestic in its form, the Tronco is a high-back chair with refined woodwork that shines through its scaled form with a backrest over 6 feet tall. Celebrating solid wood and its origin, the seat of this chair draws an intense tapestry of wood grain, revealing the grandeur of the forest.

Turfa Stool/Side Table
Crafted from light and dark green ceramics, an earthy material finds its place in the Turfa stool/side table. To add depth to this organic material, the furniture is glazed with a mélange of greens, allowing each color to add a distinctive touch to this piece.

Cepo Stool/Side Table
Drawing inspiration from nature’s seat and side table, the Cepo reinterprets a tree trunk. Made from crafted oiled walnut, it has a bent solid wood, highlighting the beauty of nature and the hands involved in its crafting.
Notably, each piece in the collection will be limited in production to 20 units. So, if you are an emerging collector, you might want to hurry. For more information, check out De La Espada Atelier’s website.
