A Slovenian startup has designed a security device that targets and shoots paintballs to deter trespassers. Meet EVE PaintCam; the world’s first paintball shooting security camera revealed at CES 2025. This borderline evil device features a real-time face recognition camera and a built-in paintball gun. It can detect humans and animals through its facial recognition prowess and precisely distinguishes between known faces, guests, and possible intruders.
Intending to fortify the safety of your home with cutting-edge technology, the PaintCam is integrated with advanced AI technology that detects and tracks real-time objects even in low light conditions. Locked and loaded, the EVE PaintCam springs into action and deploys semi-lethal UV paintballs or normal paintball pellets when needed.
You can use the camera to set two zones: a warning zone and an action zone. When an unfamiliar face approaches the warning zone PaintCam sends out a warning and kicks off a countdown. If the perspective intruder doesn’t back off, the camera can shoot paintballs or even be set to shoot tear gas projectiles to actively defend your home.
The camera connects to a dedicated app that allows you to monitor the happenings live and customize its settings to an automatic or manual defense mode. It will send you frequent warnings on the sight of any danger so you can select areas or objects you want to protect. Add faces of people you don’t want to be at the device’s target and choose to activate or deactivate paintballs, you can do it all via the app on your phone.
The smart camera has all the usual functions of a smart camera such as night vision, object tracking, and video storage for playback. It draws power from an outlet and uses Wi-Fi for constant and remote access. EVE PaintCam allows you to personalize your home security, guaranteeing your home is guarded even in your absence.

While all seems well, EVE PaintCam could be a victim of legalities in certain areas or could lead to unwanted injuries to humans and pets. Since it is highly AI-dependent, inaccuracies in detection and action cannot be ruled out. There is no update on its pricing, but it is expected to ship sometime in early 2025.
