UK-based studio Foster + Partners Industrial Design in collaboration with Danese Milano will be showcasing the Ori bird feeder at Salone del Mobile 2025 that aims to reduce disease spreading in birds. Its name Ori originates from the Japanese word ‘Tori’, which means bird.

After expensive research into different bird species, their feeding habits, and seasonal variations across different continents, the design team learned that bird feeders can be a reason for disease transmission. Looking into the matter, they came up with the Ori bird feeder that focuses on ease of disassembly to simplify cleaning, ultimately reducing the risk of disease transmission among birds.

The bird feeder also comes with swapable feeding tube and cages that can be used for a variety of food types, including seeds, nuts and suet. The large roof design protects the feed from the rain while a perforated tray ensures aeration. Furthermore, the water bath features an overflow drainage system that directs excess water through a central tube to the ground.

The Ori bird feeder was crafted through an iterative design process focused on aesthetics, functionality, and purity. It is made from spun aluminum cones, stainless steel elements, and threaded aluminum tubes. These components are held together by a central vertical axis that keeps the structure stable and easy to maintain.

The Ori bird feeder is designed to be suspended from a tree branch, used as a floor-standing feeder, or as a standing bird bath. Unlike traditional bird feeders, Ori stands out with a bold, eye-catching design that can either contrast or blend beautifully with natural surroundings. The main idea is to redefine bird feeders as sculptural elements for the outdoors.
