Vacuum cleaners are a dime a dozen these days. The market is flooded with robot vacuums and handheld models that are accessible to users through DTC sites, third-party retailers, or platforms like Kickstarter. While many new brands succeed in carving a niche for themself in a competitive market of vacuum cleaners, others falter. French startup Deglace aims for success with Fraction, which it claims to be the “world’s first fully modular vacuum cleaner.”
Launched on Kickstarter, the stick vacuum boasts a 100-percent modular design. This implies that the base unit, motor, powerhead, tube, brushes, flat nozzle, as well as the wall-mounted charging dock, are all repairable and upgradable. “The user can swap out components like the motor, battery, cyclone, filters, or brush head as needed, and upgrade the motor for more power or add batteries for extended runtime,” the company informs.
Aside from modular design, the Fraction vacuum cleaner excels with its flawless functionality. The device features a dual HEPA 14 filtration system, capturing 99.97 percent of allergens, pet dander, and dust. In addition to the HEPA filtration system, it includes a built-in UVC light that neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and dust mites upon contact.
The “Neural Predictive AI” system also provides real-time monitoring of airflow, motor, battery health, and filters to detect issues before they happen. The system sends alerts via a 1.28-inch circular HD OLED screen placed on the vacuum cleaner. According to the company, the vacuum cleaner provides 80 minutes of runtime on a single charge, with swappable batteries, allowing double or triple cleaning time.
The device is powered by a 200-watt brushless motor that offers twice the suction of standard uprights. The modular vacuum cleaner boasts 250 Air Watts of suction, surpassing the Dyson V15 Detect; however falls short in comparison to the Samsung Bespoke AI Jet Ultra. The vacuum cleaner features three adjustable suction modes (Eco, Normal, Power) and relies on “Neural Predictive AI” tech that optimizes suction based on floor type and resistance, saving energy.
The body of the vacuum cleaner is crafted from aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum and with black or white finishes. The full kit includes a base unit, powerhead, crevice tool, dusting brush, soft brush, hard brush, mini brush, flat nozzle, and wall-mounted charging dock. Not to mention, a Deglace app (iOS/Android) for easy part replacements and warranty support. Interested individuals can pledge $399 for the full kit, a 40 percent discount off the $499 retail price.
