Vintage items are making a comeback, and the music world is still in love with the classics like turntables and cassette players. Case in point is the GB-001 cassette player, UK-based We Are Rewind, which is a modernized version of the iconic Boombox of the 70s and 80s. Showcased at IFA 2025, it not only combines durability with retro aesthetics but also delivers great stereo sound and includes a number of modern features to enhance the user experience.
Crafted from brushed aluminum, the cassette player sports a sleek rectangular design with top-mounted controls. The cassette deck sits at its center and is topped by classic VU meters for a retro touch. Unlike typical portable speakers, it houses four Hi-Fi grade drivers: two woofers and two soft dome tweeters that deliver stereo sound. The dual woofers produce deep, extended bass, while the tweeters ensure clear vocals and crisp highs, together delivering a powerful 104W output.
The boombox delivers a wide frequency response of 40-20,000 Hz. Beyond its high-end audio, it integrates dynamic power control to minimize distortion, refined equalization tuned for the distinct “We Are Rewind” sound signature. A spatialization feature expands the stereo field for a more immersive listening experience.
The boombox comes with a sophisticated cassette deck mechanism powered by a user-adjustable motor with internal speed regulation for stable performance. It supports both Type I and Type II (chrome) tapes with optimized biasing for accurate recording and playback. There is an active AC erasing head to ensure low-noise recording and optimal frequency response, while dual backlit VU meters let you monitor playback and recording levels. For added versatility, it also includes a microphone input with adjustable level, or you can plug in your guitar and use it as an amplifier.
One key feature of GB-001 is that it is powered by a rechargeable, user-replaceable 3000mAh Li-ion battery that frees it from the need to stay plugged into a wall outlet. It offers up to 10 hours of playback in Tape mode and 15 hours in Aux mode, while headphone use extends playback to 15 hours in Tape mode and up to 28 hours in Aux mode, with actual runtime varying by volume level.

The cassette player has intuitive manual controls with a rotary switch for source selection and another for choosing between Type I and Type II tapes. It also includes dedicated knobs for volume, bass, treble, and balance adjustment for precise control over the listening experience.
The GB-001 allows you to play and record onto cassette tapes, or you can play tracks via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm jack input. It not only brings new life to your vintage cassette collection but also doubles as a versatile Hi-Fi audio system. There are no official details about pricing and availability, but it might retail for €449, about $526, after showcase at IFA 2025.
