Hammock tents are not new, but the one that lets you sleep on its flat bed is indeed news and a good one at that. The Haven Spectre Tent is designed to offer comfort just like your bed at home, while being the most comfortable way to backpacking in the vast wilderness. The Spectre is made by Utah-based outdoor company Haven Tents, which launched its first hammock tent in 2019.

It has the ideal weight of 4.5 lbs (2 kg and folds down into a neat little bundle, making more room for essentials in your bag without weighing you down on the move. Moreover, this little hammock tent can support up to 285 lbs. (130 kg).

Aside from its weight, it is the construction of the Haven Spectre Tent that makes it special. The lightweight and compact hammock tent has semi-transparent panels made from Monolite mesh. It helps reduce the weight, while allowing the camper to immerse themselves in the surrounding views.

The Spectre, like its predecessors, is essentially a hammock, but its floor design and included inflatable mattress remain flat so you can sleep on your back, on your side, or on your stomach. It is perfect for campers who are tired of sleeping like a banana in a hammock.

The tent’s infrastructure includes a combination of internal spreader bars and structural arcs that allow the tent to hold shape like a floor tent. You can even set it up on the ground with third-party trekking poles, which is not possible with the traditional hammock tents.

Moreover, the carbon fiber spreader bars, 33 percent lighter tree straps, and a lighter Silpoly rainfly contribute to the tent’s lighter weight. Inside, you will find multiple mesh pockets, an internal ridgeline to hang flashlights and bags, etc., and an external gear sling for footwear.

The best part is that all of this can be neatly packed into a small sleeping bag. Currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, the Haven Spectre Tent can be yours for a standard pledge of $359, with shipping slated for October 2025. However, if you want it early, you can pledge about $383 and get it by July 2025.
