It is said that adversity gives birth to greatness. This is particularly true for Japan which has been facing consecutive earthquakes, tsunamis, and other natural disasters. Observing disasters wreaking havoc on the country, Japanese designer Akira Nakagomi came up with the invention of Honey Drop Lighting, which becomes an emergency light and food source with an unconventional form factor.

The Honey Drop Lighting has a unique design with dual functionalities as an emergency preparedness tool and aesthetic lamp. This table lamp features a rechargeable LED built into a wooden base, which can be used as a flashlight in emergencies.

This item functions as a lamp that illuminates your space, which is diffused by a blown-glass bottle directly placed on the wooden pedestal. The container can also be used as an emergency preparedness tool for storing, which can be an emergency food during a crisis as it has a high sterilizing effect, is a good source of nutrients, and can be easily digested.

Nobody would have ever thought of using honey as a source of consumption at the time of disasters. But Akira Nakagomi has changed this perception with his multifunctional design. The unique and thoughtful model of the Honey Drop could be a life-saver by offering food and light.
