IKEA has revealed its Color of the Year 2025 and it’s none other than its iconic signature blue shade. Dubbed Electric Blue, the color has the potential to brighten up any space with its boldness and brilliance. Unlike the soft tones of Pantone’s Mocha Mousse, IKEA’s first-ever Color of the Year choice remains bold.

It arouses a strong sense of enthusiasm and charisma inspiring to live more freely and without inhibition. The color reflects the brand’s eclectic, modern, and playful spirit.

This spirited color can be employed in various aspects of interior design. Whether it’s decorating with furniture, painting walls, or adding a statement piece, the furniture brand is ready to “go big on blue this year.”

As per IKEA’s style guide, “Like the seas and skies from which it’s drawn, blue makes us feel contemplative and calm — and is adaptable for modern and traditional settings.” This color might not be everybody’s cup of tea due to its intimidating appearance, but when paired with soft orange, yellows, and hot pink, the color will fill the space with contemplative and calming vibes.

“This color speaks to optimism, innovation, and following dreams. It’s grounded with warmth while allowing you to keep your head in the clouds. This color has a boldness that brightens a space while providing comfort and peace,” says home furnishing direction leader at IKEA US, Abbey Stark. It is agreeable, the calming tone of blue has a captivating pull that makes us want to stop and take a breather while the world moves on.

IKEA’s on-brand color choice has always been fun and chic, and the Electric Blue seems to be one of their on-brand choices as well. However, choosing IKEA color of the year 2025 has been majorly influenced by certain design trends and cultural influences that IKEA designers heavily relied on. But most importantly they, “ensure that our Color of the Year is deeply rooted in the principles of Scandinavian design,” says Abbey.
