Awareness regarding the use of renewable sources of energy like solar energy is pushing forward the technologies of present and future. Big guns like Tesla have ventured into solar roof solutions which promise huge savings, and minimal impact on the environment. Even startups like Forward Labs are making herculean efforts to bring affordable off-the-grid technology to your homes. Now, furniture expert IKEA has also ventured into the solar roof market with its latest announcement.

The Swedish furniture giant is now going to sell batteries for rooftop solar panels which will save truckloads of money for homeowners in the near future. To give you an idea of the savings, IKEA’s solar batteries are going to save almost £560 per year on its electricity bills stacked against the traditional means of powering dwellings.

To bring eco-friendly technology to every household, IKEA has partnered with UK’s Solarcentury. The new solar panel unit will come with a battery pack that’ll store energy all day, and then be used anytime of the day.

Hege Saebjornsen, country sustainability manager for IKEA UK and Ireland said;

With energy bills already going up 15 per cent this year, there’s never been a better time for customers to take back control of their electricity bills and maximize their savings by switching to solar and solar storage.

While the whole prospect seems alluring, there is a catch. The new battery unit will cost around £3,000, and if you need to purchase the solar panels too, then the price escalates to £6,295. If one talks about the large solar panels, the price will touch around £10,000. Now, that will take almost 12 years to revive the investment with substantial benefits.
