With summer at its peak, there’s never a better time to go camping than now. If you have the itch to hit the road and wake up in the wild, with nothing but mountains or desert stretching all around, the OB120 squaredrop trailer by Imperial Outdoors comes as a saviour. Imperial Outdoors is a brand created by Nelson Industries, a Wisconsin-based company specializing in the manufacturing of luxury ice fishing houses. That know-how shows up big time in this camper, which is built to handle -40 degrees Fahrenheit winters and blazing summer days.
This is possible courtesy of composite walls and floors that are fully insulated, with dual-pane acrylic windows to help maintain an optimal temperature. Coupled with a Truma Combi furnace/water heater, this trailer can withstand extreme temperatures.
Configuration-wise, the OB120 off-road trailer measures 16.8 feet long, 6.6 feet wide, and 7 feet high. This makes it compact enough for any SUV to tow without a fuss. The 21-inch frame clearance of the OB120 allows the trailer to sneak into hidden campsites where bigger rigs get stuck. As mentioned by New Atlas, the trailer is off-road ready, courtesy of Cruisemaster CRS independent suspension, 245/75 R16 tires, and a powder-coated steel frame that help the trailer tackle the toughest terrains.
Access to the trailer’s interior is gained via the left and right doors. On the inside, the trailer features a full-size bed that’s ideal for relaxing after a long day hike, alongside a utility closet, which comes in handy for housing EDC and other camping gear. It is to be noted that the foldable mattress can be set up as a sofa during the day. Equally noticeable is the skylight that keeps the interior well-lit and airy. Other features include, slide-out kitchen with a dual-zone 75L refrigerator/freezer, sink, and pantry cabinet.
To sustain long off-grid stays, the trailer comes equipped with 60-gallon fresh and gray water tanks, both heated to prevent freezing. That means one can shower, cook, and stay hydrated for days without worrying about icy pipes. The standard 400W solar setup (two 200W panels) and 204Ah lithium battery bank (two 102Ah batteries) would keep the gadgets juiced up.

Other highlights include an 800W inverter and a Victron power system, all geared to support the cause of off-grid living. In case it gets too hot during the night, the rooftop is equipped with a 12V air conditioner that would keep the campers cool. The trailer also comes with an optional awning that creates a shaded outdoor lounge and is also ideal to support an RTT, if you plan to bring a few of your pals along.
The OB 120 trailer is currently priced at $40,000, but a fully loaded model (extra battery, 400W solar, dual awnings, roof rack) would cost well above $50,000. For a camper that’s this capable, it’s worth every penny.
