Jean Couvreur’s concrete public bench has real water surface

You might have seen wooden tables that are embedded with intricately-cut glass to create an illusion of running water. These tables not just look unique, but they also go well with any type of interior decoration. If you don’t believe, take a glance at the wonderful list of classy glass river tables, and then make your final verdict.

Although, river tables are both a beautiful and practical furniture piece, but they aren’t made using real water like the concrete public bench created by Paris-based design studio Jean Couvreur for the Lyon City Demain Festival.

Dubbed as Banc Frais (Fresh Bench in English), this concrete public bench features a small water surface in the center which is connected to an integrated pump system and 300L tank.  The soothing presence of water keeps the surroundings fresher. There is a long tradition of integrating water as a decorative and refreshing element in public spaces, and this bench also takes benefit from the same.

This white public bench is a great option to create gathering spots in the middle of crowded spaces. People can comfortably sit around the central water surface of the table to rest or converse with someone. Due to the porosity and inertia of concrete, water retains freshness for longer, just like fountains. Public benches can be designed in different shapes and forms, but the concept of this fountain-inspired park bench is unique and can be utilized to add peaceful public seating facilities amidst crowded cities.
