French designer Vincent Decat, based in the Netherlands, emphasizes the relationship between design and sculpture. His designs are inspired by his interests in concepts like time, space, sustainability and people’s connection to objects.

With a keen focus on the potential of raw materials and waste, Vincent launches the Last Bench, a piece in his series The Ruins of Delphi. Inspired by the ruins of the Athena sanctuary in Delphi, Greece, the bench is a symbol of resilience and timeless strength.

Vincent was inspired by the overall precise shapes of the stones which is also incorporated into the bench and the whole series. The bench features a slightly curved seat which is designed to resonate with the circular arrangement of the monument’s stones with a bit of jagged edges.

It is crafted from hand-cut wood pieces by combining the two layers for added thickness. Each part of the last bench is finished by the hands. The bench has a matte finish, preserving the raw, stone-like appearance, while the stainless steel elements bring an aesthetic charm to its form.

The furniture piece flaunts the efficient use of wood due to the contrast of the material, color, and finish in its design. Like the rest of the collection, the Last Bench is clad in cobalt blue to add elegance to the piece. Along with its sculptural design it offers two backrests, offering spacious seats that can accommodate more than three people.
