Anything Samsung does, LG does it better. Last year, when Samsung announced the industry’s first-ever Micro RGB TV, there wasn’t an iota of doubt that LG would soon bring an iteration of its own. Days ahead of CES 2026, LG Electronics has announced its latest innovation in display technology with the introduction of the Micro RGB Evo TV (model MRGB95), touted as “LG’s most advanced LCD television” to date.
To be available in three sizes: 100 inches, 86 inches, and 75 inches, this new lineup focuses on backlight technology, aiming to deliver what LG describes as “perfect color reproduction” through the use of individual red, green, and blue MicroLEDs. Contrary to traditional LED-backlit LCDs that rely on blue or white light sources, the Micro RGB Evo uses clusters of RGB LEDs to illuminate multiple pixels directly, resulting in purer colors.
Since we are expecting an array of RGB TVs to show up at CES 2026, it’s important to differentiate each model. LG claims that its color accuracy has been “independently certified by a quality assurance company called Intertek.” That said, this new model achieves 100-percent coverage of the BT.2020, DCI-P3, and Adobe RGB color gamuts, enabling what LG refers to as “RGB Primary Color Ultra” for full-spectrum reproduction.
LG highlights that this backlight system is paired with over a thousand dimming zones, allowing precise control of brightness and contrast, to reveal intricate details in both dark shadows and bright highlights. Hat tip to CNET, it was quick to point out that 1,000 zones seems low compared to TVs like the TCL QM8K, which have over 5,000 individual zones. More zones imply potentially finer contrast control.
Nevertheless, LG Micro RGB Evo TV still boasts an array of features, including an upgraded Dual AI Engine-based α (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3, the same advanced chip found in LG’s flagship OLED models. This processor enables features like Dual Super Upscaling, which processes two types of AI upscaling simultaneously for sharper, more natural images, along with personalized webOS enhancements such as Voice ID, AI Picture/Sound Wizard, and an intuitive “My Page” home screen.
LG has a lot to show lately, and CES 2026 will indeed put its ambitious claims to the test. If the Micro RGB Evo TV delivers on its promises of unparalleled color fidelity and contrast, it could set a new benchmark for televisions. If the claim falls flat, Samsung and HiSense would certainly walk away with bragging rights. Whatever the case, this announcement comes as the TV industry intensifies competition in premium segments. These RGB LED-based TVs, despite showcasing punchy imagery in early demonstrations, have historically been limited to oversized, costly models. We’ll have to wait to see how LG prices them.
