You rarely see the top names in the blogosphere raving about a teardrop trailer. But when that happens, it is definitely warranted that something special is being cooked in the overlanding space. Recently, New Atlas and Manual reported a teardrop being lauded for the panoramic views it had to offer, so we decided to check what the fuss was about. Turns out, South African trailer manufacturer Naledi Campers is selling an eponymous teardrop trailer with huge windows that pour in the views from both sides. But what else?

Measuring a little over 14 feet long, the Naledi teardrop trailer features a sturdy steel-braced frame, an aluminum composite body with an insulated subframe, and toughened safety glass. The trailer comes poised on a single-axle steel chassis and rides on 14-inch steel rims fitted with 185/14C commercial tires that offer excellent traction. The trailer also includes a 50-liter water tank mounted above the axle for optimal weight distribution, ensuring smooth handling on uneven terrain.

To meet the power needs, the teardrop comes equipped with a robust electrical system that offers both 12V and 220V options for powering your devices and appliances. A 100 Amp/h lithium-ion battery ensures you have ample power for your journey, while a 120W roof-mounted solar panel keeps the battery topped up, even when you’re far off the grid.

You might wonder if it’s the off-road or off-grid capabilities of the Naleda hyping its popularity. Well, that’s not the case. The real highlight of the trailer is its body. The Naledi teardrop trailer is constructed from a combination of aluminum and aluminum composite material, providing both strength and lightness. The trailer’s subframe is insulated with high-density foam, ensuring durability and effective temperature regulation inside the cabin. The fully aluminum nose cone features two lockable side doors for easy access, while the side windows are made from toughened privacy safety glass, offering both security and privacy.

In case you missed it, the windows are the attraction of the trailer. If you spend any time with adventure trailer enthusiasts gather (off or online), you’ll probably come across discussions about the cramped feeling inside teardrop trailers. Naledi Campers saw this as an opportunity to make the space more spacious without altering the configurations of regular teardrop trailers. The company introduced a light-filled teardrop trailer that goes beyond the traditional skylight idea and embraces floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides of the trailer. This not only allows light inside the trailer but also provides a sense of spaciousness to the camper.

To complement the windows, a polyurethane paint finish ensures the body’s protection from the elements, while ultra-light wheel arches and a roof rail for easy mounting of the awning add convenience. As noted by Gear Patrol, the trailer features a couple of pull-out awnings that provide shade, shelter, and privacy, giving the camper a perfect outdoor living space no matter where it is set up.

Inside, the trailer features a carefully designed cabin space. The bedroom area is fitted with a mattress crafted from 100mm high-density foam, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep after a long day of exploration. A roof-mounted fan offers dual directional airflow, keeping the space cool and comfortable, regardless of the weather outside. For added convenience, the interior is equipped with LED lighting and cupholders placed within easy reach, making nighttime relaxation simple. The space also includes a storage shelf and cupboard with doors, perfect for keeping your essentials organized.

As mentioned above, there are two lockable entrance doors on each side of the cabin, each with privacy blinds and mosquito nets, ensuring you can enjoy fresh air without pesky pests. For tech-savvy travelers and professionals working on the go, the trailer includes two side-mounted 220V 3-pin plug points and two USB outlets powered by the 12V supply, making it easy to charge devices while on the move.

As is the case with traditional teardrop trailers, the Naledi teardrop trailer features an outdoor kitchen fitted at the rear. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, a single-plate induction cooktop, and a single-burner gas stove powered by disposable butane canisters, providing flexibility for cooking any meal. Other features include a kitchen sink with a tap, a 50l National Luna fridge/freezer mounted on sliding rails in the nose cone, which keeps your food fresh, and an electric kettle alongside a set of storage containers.

The trailer is up for grabs at R289,000 (roughly $15,800), but as is the case with South African trailers, Naledi isn’t up for grabs in the US or any other part of the world at the moment.
