It is not often that fire pits become a centre of conversation when planning a camping trip. The focus is usually on tents, camping stoves, or the journey itself, as fire pits are often seen as heavy backyard accessories that are impractical to bring along on a camping trip. However, the PACKFIRE fire pit, recently launched on Kickstarter, is set to change that perception.
The creators are promoting it with the tagline: “A full-size round fire pit that’s portable, tool-free to set up, and burns smokeless.” This bold claim seems to have gone well with the backers, as the campaign has already exceeded its funding goal and is garnering a lot of attention in the crowdfunding circuit. All-an-all, there are a multitude of factors that make PACKFIRE stand out.
The first of those factors is the patented ‘Clearburn smokeless system.’ PACKFIRE boasts of many selling points, but the key highlight of the fire pit is its smoke-free design. As per the makers, “PACKFIRE uses innovative technology to maximize airflow and heat circulation to cut down smoke.” With a 360-degree re-burn system, the pit recirculates airflow to heat up quickly and cut down smoke so you can enjoy your fire comfortably.
Another highlight of the PACKFIRE is its portability. Unlike traditional fire pits, which are often heavy, bulky, and cumbersome to transport, this features a flat-fold design that sets up in seconds and stows neatly into a durable backpack when not in use. All this is possible courtesy of the company’s patent-pending ‘Fold-Flat design’ and ‘QuickDraw leg setup’ that makes the fire pit easy to carry.
On a little downside, PACKFIRE weighs 35lbs (when in its backpack). The fire pit itself is 27.5 lbs, and the bag weighs 7.5 lbs. Nevertheless, the PackFire still folds flat and stores in the included backpack. This makes it easy to carry on camping trips. The makers also confirm that the fire fit can easily fit in a car boot. Material-wise, the PACKFIRE fire pit is made from a combination of stainless steel and aluminum, thus being durable enough to take wear and tear through the years.
On the configuration front, the fire pit stands 22.4 inches tall with a 17-inch rim diameter, providing ample space for a full-size fire. When packed, it measures 25 inches in height, collapsing flat for easy storage. While it doesn’t currently include a dedicated grill, PACKFIRE is suitable for roasting marshmallows and other campfire snacks, “with potential cooking accessories for the future,” the makers tease.

It is to be noted that the fire pit market is crowded with both portable and smokeless fire pit options. Despite that, PACKFIRE still takes the gamble and distinguishes itself with its unique backpack design and tool-free setup, giving it an edge that adventurers who value convenience should embrace. For those interested, the PACKFIRE fire pit is available on preorder for $299 early bird price on Kickstarter.
