Swedish design brand Materia, through their Newcomer Award, has always encouraged young designers by giving them a platform to display new age designs. Every year, the company chooses a winner whose creation is exceptional and deserves to become a practical product.

This year’s Newcomer Award was nabbed by a classic park bench called ‘Park’, designed by Sanna Gripner and Marta Hagglund, both graduates from Beckmans College of Design. Park is a sofa that’s classified as a park bench, designed to bring in outdoor feel to your interiors.

Park Bench was launched at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2017, and it is surely an inviting furniture for indoor settings. Park’s structural frame is constructed from steel tubing while the seating and back is made of concrete strips. Concrete planks can be furnished in several different fabrics and colors to add value to any interiors.

According to the product development manager Krister Jonsson:

For us at Materia it is important that our Newcomers offer something new. Pushing the limits is the Newcomer project’s most important objective. We recognized that Park was based on a well thought through analysis on how indoor settings with an outdoors feel are often created. And there aren’t many pieces of upholstered furniture that really fit into this context. Park fills the gap while also displaying a strong ambition within the whole concept.
