We all deserve peace, and that starts at home, our ultimate safe space! This is exactly why our houses deserve high levels of protection. Standing guard at the portal between our home and the outside world is the door, which should assure a secure but convenient access. Keyless entry door locks have come of age in this regard, offering desired safety and convenience. Amid the host of impressive options on the market, the Philips 4200 Series Wi-Fi Smart Deadbolt stands out as one of the easiest to install and use.

Before we delve deeper into our review to understand what makes this Philips lock unique and a consumer favorite, let’s get any doubts about the device’s own safety out of the way. The Philips 4200 Series is part of Philips Home Access, a smart lock and home security category under the Philips brand. Yes, the genius lighting brand we have come to love and trust for years. The lock promises similar reliability at home, with easy-to-use 4 user-friendly access controls.

Safe and Durable, Family-First Design

Those savvy with technology can have their way around the different access options smart locks provide. But it’s the young and the elderly who need more convenience. The Philips smart lock is designed with a physical keypad to allow anyone not comfortable with app controls to enter and leave with peace of mind. This tactile interface with physical buttons is simpler and more reliable than a touchscreen, making the Philips 4200 Series a practical upgrade for families that prefer a familiar, tactile experience.

The physical keypad smart lock works in temperatures ranging from -31 degrees Fahrenheit to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, and also comes with an IP54 waterproof rating. With its durability and ease of use, users have a choice to install it in any residential zone without worrying about how it will fare against the water splashes of Florida or the scorching heat of Arizona.

Backed by Philips’ assurance, this smart lock for families is built for quality and reliability. As we, and hundreds of reviewers on Amazon, have noted, the smart lock is easy to install and set up. It looks clean and simple (nothing fancy or unwanted on the interface) but feels sturdy, not flimsy and plasticky like some mid-range smart Wi-Fi locks out there. And to complement various door types made from wood, steel, or glass and other composite materials, the device is available in a choice of two colors, Matte Black and Satin Nickel.

Set up Convenience and Access Options

The Philips smart lock comes with built-in Wi-Fi that facilitates a quick and direct connection to your home’s wireless network. Its user-friendly design allows homeowners with an existing deadbolt to replace the Philips lock without additional holes or pokes; just get the old one out and put this one in place. It can seamlessly fit into the grooves of an existing setup and is ready to connect with the network in a few minutes of installation.

If you don’t have an existing deadbolt, the device is provided with an instruction manual and measuring guidelines to help you with the installation. The process can take upward of an hour to drill precise holes, etc., in a DIY installation, but a professional may do it faster for you. When this Wi-Fi smart deadbolt is installed correctly, it pairs with the Philips Home Access App to control it from anywhere.

When you’re sitting in the office, and your nephew shows up unannounced at the door after school, you can remotely grant him access to your house. The app provides options to switch controls on or off, set temporary access permissions for renters, and also receive real-time notifications when the battery is running low or if someone is trying to access without your permission.

These are convenient ways. Even better is that the Philips smart lock pairs with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, allowing you to unlock the door using voice. For instance, you have a visitor at the door, and you do not want to walk to the door, you can ask your voice assistant or smart speaker to unlock the door for them.

The elderly, or kids for that matter, have the option of a physical keypad, which stores up to 100 passwords. For security reasons, the lock will trigger an alarm after multiple incorrect passcode attempts. If users forget the passcode, they can still use the backup physical keys provided in the box.

Philips deadbolt smart lock’s auto lock feature is still the most interesting, especially for those like me who return minutes or hours after leaving home, to check if they had locked the door properly. The Philips smart lock gives every member the comfort that it will self-lock within 10-180 seconds by mobile app. The feature keeps your home secure even when you might forget to lock your door when rushing for work or are too excited to go shopping.

Battery has the Power

Smart locks we have dealt with in the past have often given us nightmares. Their battery drains quickly; in fact, one of the devices locked me out of my home. Its battery conked off without notice, and I was left with no other option but to wait for the keys to arrive. Philips smart lock is powered by 8 AA batteries (while most locks only use 4) that should last at least six to eight months under regular usage.

Of course, the batteries will die with use and over time, but Philips ensures you are adequately notified in advance to make preparations. The Philips deadbolt lock beeps when the battery level is below 10 percent. It will also send you a low battery alert in the app, reminding you to replace the battery in time.

Pricing and Availability

With Prime Day approaching, the Philips 4200 Series Wi-Fi Smart Deadbolt is a practical smart home upgrade for homeowners looking for easier, keyless, and more flexible front-door access. Selected Philips smart locks will be available at a Prime Day deal price of $69.99, down from the list price of $106.99, offering customers 35% off for a limited time.
