Cat litter boxes have evolved over the years to include features such as self-cleaning mechanisms, odor-free waste disposal, and dedicated storage systems. Working along the same line, Japan-based Popur has introduced its S7 model, which is touted as the world’s first split litter system. Its original X5 cat litter box launched in 2022 also featured a similar two-box design that stores cat waste in a standalone, dedicated trash can, and the latest S7 model continues this approach to effectively trap foul odors. The S7 incorporates a Split Litter System (SLS) that functions much like a mini-split air conditioner that separates clean litter from sealed waste and locks odors at the source with airtight gaskets.
Popur S7 SLS self-cleaning cat litter box has a convertible tray for your cat to use and an outside bin that collects waste separately. Waste moves through an open channel to keep the inside clean and comfortable while reducing maintenance. Its special brim prevents leaks and the large litter bin can last over 35 days per cat. Easy-to-clean surfaces, a removable tray, snap-in parts, and simple trash bag changes make upkeep hassle-free.
The cat litter box uses a simple 3-step process to keep things clean. It first tilts to let the litter cover the waste. Then, it sifts the dirty clumps and drops them into a separate bin. Finally, it spreads the clean litter back evenly for the cat to use. Popur S7 locks waste in a separate, sealed bin with a special liner that keeps odors from escaping while the open-top design lets fresh air in and helps smells disappear quickly. With new magnet clips, it is also possible to use regular liners.
Unlike rotary drum litter boxes, which often leave behind sticky stains, the Popur S7 uses a fast, clean side-dumping motion that moves waste outside the box, while its deep, cuboid tray holds litter evenly up to 4 inches to ensure better coverage. The S7 cat litter box offers two types of sifters: 6 mm wide by default for better sifting and an optional 10mm version for larger granules.
Popur S7 features an 8-inch-deep cuboid tray designed specifically to provide a safe environment for cats to dig, turn, and stretch naturally. Measuring 24 inches diagonally, the litter tray provides 100 percent unobstructed, three-dimensional space to felines. It does not feel cramped like rotary drum-based systems with tight corners, angled sides, choking overheads, and suffocating walls. The litter tray remains fully open during use and nothing spins under the paws to ensure safety. The tray can also be dismounted, which gives you a new way to pour all the litter into the trash.
Popur S7 is built from strong ABS plastic, which is denser and tougher than regular plastics. Key parts are reinforced with metal, and the upgraded metal waste bin is coated to block odors and last much longer than plastic bins. The cat litter box has no scissor closures or mechanical bite points to minimize risk for cats. Its signature accordion bellows fold inward with a safe 2.5-inch ground clearance. It comes integrated with sensors for safety and there is also a Sentinel Mode that halts motion near skittish cats to prevent startle.

Popur S7 cat litter box can support up to 16 cats per system when used with shared access and bag changes every other day. Its litter and bin capacity are designed to handle the needs of seven cats for five days. According to the company, the S7 completes a cleaning cycle in just 2.5 minutes, making it 20 percent faster than the previous model. Additionally, every part of the Popur S7 is designed to be easily accessible, replaceable, and repairable to ensure long-term durability.
After three years of research and development, Popur has launched the S7 robot litter box on Kickstarter. If you wish to get one, you have to spend about $350 to get one delivered in November 2025.
