An innovative designer from the Design Academy Eindhoven, Henry K Wein has proven yet again that treehouses are not necessarily huge wooden structures. His latest design, Trunk Bunk presents itself as a modular sleeping platform appropriate for expansive surroundings.

Towable behind a bicycle, like a camping trailer, the Trunk Bunk is an adaptable camping solution that presents the camper with the choice of sleeping in different trees and locations at the desired elevations. Being a sturdy and compact one-man space, it allows the camper to sleep in its aluminum and plywood frame but with ease.

Suspending this thing in mid-air is simple. You begin by throwing a rope over a horizontal branch to pull the contraption up into the tree. Its lightweight folding design is securely strapped to a pulley system that offers the ease of moving the trunk bed up and down.

Simply mount the structure on a solid tree branch with the tree trunk acting as support. You can access the bed by climbing up using the adjustable ladder. Throw in a mattress and sleep in your safe and secure haven.

This portable treehouse trailer can be easily towed behind a bicycle and ensures to step up your camping game. Flaunting a hexagonal prism shape with hinged corners, the bed folds at ease aiding transportation. It can also be removed just as effectively.

“It was great to get exposure to an audience outside the design bubble. I’ve had many constructive conversations about how to potentially develop it further, but in general a lot of positive reactions about the concept. It is really motivating to see people getting excited about your work.”

“It is still a working prototype that was built in the time period of 5 months and on a budget. If developed further, the wood would probably be fully replaced with textiles to make it lighter and improve it for weather conditions like rain and wind.” Henry K Wein told Homecrux.

As per Wein, with this Trunk Bunk, a traveler can be safely “cocooned above the forest floor” after a day full of adventure to reconnect with the habitat around.
