It’s quite amazing how tiny house manufacturers name their models. We have a good example of Silverton-based firm Tiny Mountain Houses, who dub their tiny homes after mountain ranges. Now we’ve come across Rewild Homes, who christen their mobile habitats after bird’s name. Speaking of the latter, we’ve covered a few tiny houses designed by the British Columbia-based tiny house builder, but one micro dwelling that lured my particular attention is Ptarmigan tiny house on wheels.
Named after a medium-sized game bird in the grouse family, the Ptarmigan tiny house is a single-level home that feels much different than a traditional tiny house, courtesy of its extra width. Most tiny houses measure less than 10 feet in width, but Ptarmigan breaks that order and configures just a little above 12 feet. Not to mention, a 20-feet custom 14,000lb GVW trailer that sports the entire structure of the house.
“Going overwidth comes with its own set of hurdles, but the outcome is simply unbeatable,” mentions the company. Being 12 feet wide, you will need a permit to transport it, so you need to keep a tab on that as well. Having said that, let’s talk about the features of the house. The tiny home is based on a double-axle trailer and comes finished in cedar wood exterior.
There is a small white door that welcomes you to the living room/kitchen, while the frosted glass windows bring in air and light to keep the interior fresh and bright. The color palette of the room blends pretty well with the furnishing which majorly comprises custom birch cabinetry and countertop. There is plenty of space for users to equip the sofa and a coffee table. “The luxurious fur trim combines with the modern black fixtures and clean lines to make a contemporary and self-contained suite, perfect as a retirement home or as a secondary source of income,” states the company.
Elucidating more on the kitchen, it houses a washer/dryer, a bar fridge under the counter, along plenty of counter space for an electric cooktop. It’s hard to ignore the soft-closing drawers and cupboards that are spread throughout the home. A custom fir pocket door separates the living space/kitchen from the bedroom. Though there is no mattress visible in the pictures, the bedroom can easily be accoutered with a queen-size bed. In addition to the mattress, the bedroom also includes a custom wardrobe alongside a gaggle of windows.

The bedroom leads to the bathroom as well, courtesy of a custom fir door. Featuring a toilet, shower, storage box, and vanity, the bathroom is pretty regular and similar to that of an ordinary home. I decided to save the bad news for the last, which is the model is no longer available for purchase. However, if you are confident of your haggling and negotiating skills, you might convince Rewild Homes to build a one-off Ptarmigan tiny house for you!
