There is something so charming about old things given a new life. Take this handcrafted 1940s rail carriage that has been turned into a unique tiny home. It has a barn-inspired rustic feel to the exterior, while the minimal interior blends classic and modern with underlit areas and wooden, vaulted ceilings. The round window bed gives it a certain hobbit house-like aesthetic.

The newly renovated railway carriage is available for sale for only £35,000 (roughly $46,700) in North Cornwall, England. Found in dilapidated condition (and converted into a tiny house) by Bare Root Creations of North Cornwall, the conversion is astounding. What once was a run-down unit is now a beautifully restored dwelling.

The 1940s rail carriage turned into a tiny home combines functionality, comfort, and character. It is perfect to be used as a vacation rental, a personal retreat, or full-time home for a couple or individual. This unique micro-dwelling measures 18 feet long and 8 feet wide. The vaulted ceilings lend a spacious feeling to the interior.

The carriage home is fully insulated with 50mm Celotex for year-round comfort. It is built on a steel frame chassis with a robust corrugated roof and galvanized steel axles. The builder incorporated the reclaimed wood from the original railway carriage into the flooring and walls, giving it an authentic character. The exterior is clad in sustainable British larch for timeless beauty and durability.

Inside, the live-edge beech countertops and benches add a natural touch. The interior is clad in natural wood, with underlighting accentuating the appeal in the kitchenette and the living area. Multiple windows keep the interior well-lit and ventilated.

The kitchenette has reclaimed wood cabinets with driftwood handles, a Belfast sink, and a mini fridge. You can install a cooktop or use a portable stove. Past the kitchen is a bathroom with a shower, sink, and flush toilet.

On the other side is a live-edge, storage-integrated L-shaped seating arrangement with a lit underside. From there, you get access to the round window bedroom. The bedroom can sleep two people with ease. It has a small window and a shelving unit that is also underlit. The rail carriage home is prepared for water and electricity hook-ups. You can even request additional upgrades such as a water heating system and steel carriage wheels for a classic railway look. It is currently listed on Tiny House Listings for £35,000 (roughly $46,700).
