San Diego Engineer Builds Backyard Observatory Fueled by Wife’s Love

Let’s face it, there aren’t many wives out there who would want their husbands to spend most of his time in a closed observatory, gazing at what’s beyond planet earth. On the hindsight, Lori Krizak (on their anniversary) gifted her husband Paul Krizak a telescope which changed his life from there on. This special gift came with the luxury to build an observatory in the backyard which speaks volumes about Lori’s love for her soulmate.

Paul is one lucky husband as his childhood dream of exploring the skies finally got realized, as he can observe celestial bodies like never before. He can see Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Venus, and Mercury in brilliant details as the Qualcomm engineer stargazes every night thanks to this precious gift.

Paul said;

When I got the telescope and saw Jupiter for the first time and then I was just hooked after that … I try to get out once a week or so unless there’s a full moon or something blocking the sky.

To complement his love for stargazing, Paul purchased an observatory dome kit online and built it on top of a solid foundation in the backyard. It took him nine months to complete the project (on his own) which speaks volumes about his love for astronomy.

Lori embraced the idea and showed appreciation for her husband’s childhood love by planting a garden around it. She even left a loving note inside which deepened their bond.

Paul exclaimed;

Not a lot of wives would be thrilled with a giant observatory in the backyard. It’s really more a way to disconnect from stuff that’s going on and I can just be out here quietly relaxing with the stars.

Paul’s backyard observatory has garnered quite a lot of interest in the town, and he is generous enough to accept guest invitations via email to take a tour of the observatory and gaze at the stars. However, there is just one rule in the dome – don’t break anything.
