After bringing sustainability to this year’s Salone del Mobile, industrial designer Karim Rashid has officially partnered with Decibel Editions to debut SKOOP, a sculptural new 3D printed scoop seat at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) 2026. The jazzy SKOOP chair blends fluid organic forms with cutting-edge sustainable manufacturing.

The chair flaunts Rashid’s signature style with curved silhouettes and soft edges. It relies on clean, flowing lines that create a gentle and welcoming physical presence. The style strips away unnecessary decoration while keeping the overall shape soft. Manufactured using a computer-guided robotic arm that deposits material only where needed, the chair forgoes the scrap waste common in traditional wood carving or plastic molding. The precise process ensures zero material goes to landfills during the manufacturing stage.

The entire piece is printed as one single, unbroken sculptural object. There are no visible joints, metal screws, or separate legs to break the visual flow. This seamless construction gives the chair a powerful, unified appearance in any room.

The 3D printing process leaves behind a distinctive pattern of subtle horizontal ridges, creating a unique texture that invites people to touch the surface. The layered look serves as a visual stamp of its high-tech origin, while the glossy surface reflects light to emphasize the dramatic movement of the curves.

The structure is made entirely from a specialized cellulose biomaterial developed by Worry-Free Plastics. This plant-derived matter replaces harmful petroleum-based plastics with an all-natural foundation, ensuring the furniture leaves zero toxic residue behind.

At the end of its life, the SKOOP chair can be broken down naturally without harming the planet. The biomaterial is fully compostable, allowing the object to return safely to the earth. This design eliminates the typical disposal pressures faced by modern furniture brands.
