Frank Lloyd Wright needs no introduction. The legendary designer and famed architect not only inked his name in the annals of history but also left imprints for many budding designers who are still trying to dabble with his signature style. Recently, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in collaboration with Steelcase has unveiled the much anticipated ‘Racine’ furniture collection.

The news broke out last year that Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation was in talks with Steelcase to reimagine his iconic pieces and pay an ode to the late architect’s mid-century modern design style. Now, some eight months later you’d finally be able to lay hands on furniture pieces that the renowned architect designed for the SC Johnson administrative building.

Steelcase’s latest collection reintroduces, reinterprets, and reimagines the classic furniture design from 1939. The collection comprises a $9,750 signature desk, a writing console starting at $2,620, and a lounge chair worth $2,609.

Sharing his thoughts on the collection, Stuart Graff, President and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation said, “Frank Lloyd Wright used design as a means of deepening the relationships between people, nature, and place. With the Frank Lloyd Wright Racine Collection and our collaboration with Steelcase, we’re excited to expand his vision of an architecture for better living.”

I am fanboying and stoked by the furniture collection. The biggest highlight for me is the archival ‘signature’ desk that features an incomparable design amalgamating beauty, craft, and function together. Boasting a stunning appearance, the 84-inch desk features round curves, an integrated waste bin, and swiveling drawers to house stationary items.

If you are pondering, what new Steelcase offers; the office furniture manufacturer has made a few significant changes to the desks and chairs. The size of the desk and chair from Steelcase is comparatively larger. The iconic three-legged chair by the Wright has now been modified and features an extra leg, thus offering more stability to the user.

Other subtle changes are made to the upholstered back, which is now comfortable. The Frank Lloyd Wright Racine Collection by Steelcase is available in a black finish. However, you’d still be able to buy the iconic rust-red furniture, if you wish.
