Sometimes I wonder, do we really pay attention to a chair design? Even if we do, do we really notice the minute details like a strong base, seat angle, adjustable backrest and arm support? All these elements are necessary if you plan on buying furniture for a long duration of time. However, modern-day calls for stylish furniture rather than a utilitarian one. Enter Strip chair by HENGE, which balances the two prospects beautifully to deliver an ergonomic seating that is pragmatic and attractive at the same time.
Designed by Massimo Castagna for HENGE, a high-end Italian furniture design company, the chair comprises a 2.5cm curved metal pipe frame. The pipe rises beautifully from the ground and takes a full circle to return to the starting point, creating a minimalist frame. In between, it also makes a backrest. The curved metal frame is major highlight of the chair but that doesn’t stop the leather seat from stealing the limelight.
The seat and backrest of the Strip chair are padded with leather for a classy feel. However, one would spot woven leather strips below the armrest, which I assume is the reason behind dubbing the chair Strip.
Overall, the chair design is really beautiful and functional. The structure is finished in hand burnished metals using traditional techniques. Other than that, there is usage of black burnished steel, burnished brass, and black burnished brass. HENGE mentions that due to the structural charge of the leather, the Strip chair can be manufactured only with a selection leathers from their catalogue: Nabuck and Camoscio leather category 300 and Durango and E-Type leather category 400.
