The Tembo chair is an innovative flat-pack chair designed by Brianna Muchai of B Muchai Design. Crafted by an MFA student at the University of Iowa, the striking chair was selected for the ICFF x WantedDesign Launch Pad showcase this year. The chair is a thoughtfully designed piece that offers the tool-less, flat-pack convenience, making it easy to take along.

The Tembo chair features a striking structural design formed by an interlocking series of connected, spoked hexagons. These geometric lines function as both a decorative point and the prime engineering support for the furniture. The sharp, angular patterns bring a distinct sculptural quality that elevates the aesthetics of modern living spaces.

Large, hexagonal 3D shapes fuse to form the structure of the chair that gives it a comic book look. This structural pattern wraps around the seating core to distribute body weight evenly while keeping the chair lightweight. The exposed wood construction flaunts a seamless marriage of Scandinavian simplicity with Japanese minimalism.

Made with flat-pack convenience, the chair is easy to assemble and disassemble when not in use. Thanks to its lightweight construction, the chair is easily portable, especially for families who move frequently. Reducing the packaging for the flat configuration, the chair automatically becomes even more eco-friendly.

The design brings a calm and soothing vibe to any room while also uplifting the aesthetics of the surroundings effortlessly. The designer provides two variants for the chair. One feature a warm whitish tone for the light and basic aesthetics, and a deeper brown tone for a darker presence. The Tembo chair is a masterclass in modern flat-pack furniture with a sleek, Japandi-inspired minimalism.
