Indian designers are making waves at the 2026 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) after winning hearts at this year’s Salone del Mobile. Bridging craftsmanship with unique silhouettes at ICFF, Indian industrial designers Ridima Jain and Manav Singla, the owners of Brooklyn-based studio Ridezign, have designed the Tesser lighting collection to mirror little pieces of New York. The pieces reimagine plastics through sustainable innovation and artistic rigor.
The collection draws inspiration from the geometric patterns of illuminated windows in New York City skyscrapers at night. It translates the structured, linear aesthetic of urban architecture into residential lighting fixtures. The lamp captures the visual energy of a dense cityscape and scales it down into a functional luminaire for interior spaces.
The design philosophy uses light and shadow to direct how a viewer perceives the surroundings. By manipulating form, solidity, and negative space, the fixtures create a dynamic visual experience that changes based on your viewing angle. The light functions as an interactive sculptural element rather than a static source of light.
The collection features distinct model variants, distinguished by specific numerical codes and color palettes. Popular models include the Tesser 8:3 in Pink Red, the Tesser 5:8 in Butter Coast, and the Tesser 5:3 in Lavender Mint. This variety allows users to choose specific color combinations and configurations to match their interiors.
The lamp structures are manufactured using advanced 3D printing technology and eco-conscious materials. The primary medium is a sustainable, plant-based PLA filament made from recycled plastics. This production method allows for complex, organic shapes while minimizing the manufacturing carbon footprint and material waste.
“The lamps are inspired by walking through New York at night and catching glimpses of strangers’ lives through glowing windows stacked in endless grids. Each small square holds a story,” as the designers told ICFF.
The Tesser lighting collection has earned recognition within the international design community for its marriage of sustainability and aesthetics. It won the Decorative Accent Lamps category at the LIT Lighting Design Awards.
