After an unprecedented rise of COVID-19, there has been a vast increase in the use of face masks. Extensively used single-use face masks are the need of the day but there is no defined way to dispose of them, which means these are only adding to the growing environmental impact of pollution.

Italian interior designer Tobia Zambotti is garnering some attention toward the environmental issue. For this, the designer has created a unique couch stuffed with discarded single-use masks.

This one-of-a-kind furniture project is named Couch-19 in response to the Covid-19. The designer has created it as an iceberg-shaped modular pouf with over 10,000 single-use face masks collected from the streets of Pergine Valsugana, Zambotti’s hometown in Italy.

All the masks are thoroughly disinfected with ozone before being used as unusual stuffing for the recyclable crystal PVC modular pouf. The pouf features an irregular shape and is filled with light blue disposable masks that recall the aesthetics of an iceberg, one of the most iconic symbols of global warming.
