Tom Dixon is a visionary; there is no two ways about it. So far, his portfolio includes product, lighting, and furniture design for homes and commercial spaces, except for beds. This year at Milan Design Week, Tom Dixon set out to change that and got into bed with another British bedmaker, Vispring, to unveil a collection of four headboards and one bed.

The partnership between two British houses brings Vispring’s heritage craftsmanship with bold contemporary design, associated with Dixon’s work. The two reimagined the bedroom at the Mua Mua Hotel on Milan’s Mulino Estate during 2026 Milan Design Week.

“The bed is the piece of furniture we spend the most time in contact with… a primary refuge that deserves more celebration,” says Tom Dixon. The self-taught British designer further adds, “My narrative now is that I couldn’t find a hotel room, so I had to build my own hotel…Bedrooms need to be rethought and reinvented; there hasn’t been a space for truly extravagant design since waterbeds in the 1970s.”

The exhibition, born out of the collaboration, hosts new pieces including four headboards, a bed inspired by Dixon’s previous designs, along with bespoke showpieces made exclusively for Milan. The entire showcase is a study of layered fabrics and materials, both current and archival.

Dixon’s Fat Chair’s design evolves into a complete bed, while the Groove headboard takes shape after Dixon’s ridged furniture and lighting collection of the same name. The ridged, groovy headboard offers snug, comfortable cushioning. The other headboards, namely Rainbow, Heart, and Wingback, nod to Vispring’s art deco golden years, while hearkening back to the designer’s popular furniture designs.

The collaboration brought together two British visionary brands that want to change how we perceive our bedrooms, while aiming to change the way our beds feel and look. The Vispring and Tom Dixon headboard and bed collection is an intersection where craft meets comfort, and design meets sleep.
