Multifunctional furniture is high in demand and owning one of them not only allows you to free up space but also saves a lot of money. ‘Welcome’ is one such accessory that functions both as furniture and a lighting piece. Designed by Fabio Novembre for Italian studio Driade, the new multifunctional accessory can be used as a centerpiece for your dining table or a storage unit at the home entrance.

The biggest USP of the ‘Welcome’ is its flexibility. When placed on top of a dining table, it can illumine light, hence functioning as a lamp. When poised near an entrance door, it morphs into a storage unit, thereby facilitating the storage of nitty-gritty items. Though Driade labels it a storage unit, it essentially is an object holder that is also ideal for placing keys, cellphones and wallet, if you wish to. As a lamp, the accessory is portable so you can take it to your bedroom, living room, or patio; and as an object holder, it’s a luminous centerpiece enhancing your home décor.

“Perhaps these little tools that accompany us in different environments and atmospheres, on a dining table or on a bedside table next to our bed, could also help us to accommodate other objects, to highlight them or simply to keep them close at hand,” states Fabio Novembre, the designer of the lamp cum furniture. He further states, that Welcome was born from a “gesture of inclusion, a happy coexistence of functions for unexpected combinations.”

Available in white, black and red, the symmetrical piece serving as the decorative item can be bought for $215. The body of the lamp cum holding unit is made of batch-dyed ABS plastic material, while the diffuser is in transparent opal black PMMA.

There is a touch button at the bottom of the lamp that allows the user to switch on/off alongside adjusting the intensity of the light. Not to mention, the lamp is powered by an 8-hour battery and rechargeable via a cable with a USB socket.
