The Litter-Robot 4 self-cleaning cat litter box by Whisker, launched in 2022, featured advanced litter-sifting technology designed to save cat owners from the hassle of scooping waste. Three years later, Whisker has introduced an AI-enabled, autonomous litter box that can cater to multiple cats, providing the same level of freedom as a single cat enjoys. The new model, called the Litter-Robot 5, was unveiled on October 21, along with two additional variants: an advanced and an economical model, with prices ranging from $599 to $899.
Users swear by the convenience of litter robots, especially those who live in smaller apartments with more than one cat. The ease with which such devices save human effort and help keep the house clean and odor-free is particularly lauded by netizens. The three: Litter-Robot 5 Pro ($899), Litter-Robot 5 ($799), and Litter-Robot Evo ($599), are based on this consumer input and enhanced with feedback to plug the crevasses previous self-cleaning litter boxes have left and enhance thereupon.
Most advanced litter box in the trio, of course, is the Litter-Robot 5 Pro, which thrives on new, intelligent technologies to expand the company’s smart pet ecosystem it has been building since 1999. This device is integrated with two night-vision, AI-powered cameras, one each on the outside and the inside. The camera mounted at the entrance recognizes cats using facial recognition, while the one on the inside watches their waste.

Designed for parents – with multiple cats – looking for insight into their cat’s bathroom behavior, the Litter-Robot 5 Pro can track activity, detect changes in litter box visit routine, track weight, and provide personalized real-time updates using a dedicated app. Whisker is also offering a subscription service, Whisker Plus, as an add-on to help parents track their cats’ bathroom behavior over a period of time to provide early insights into any developing ailment.
The litter box can keep an individual account of up to five cats, and features Whisker’s proprietary WasteID technology. This can distinguish between urine and solid waste for behavior tracking and optimized cleaning. Litter-Robot 5, also with the cameras, just like the Pro variant, uses WasteID to understand the waste type and autonomously sifts out waste into a sealed bin after every use, leaving your cats with a fresh litter box and your home odor-free at all times without human intervention. With the Litter-Robot 5 and the Pro model, you can easily go up to 10 days between emptying (when one cat is using).

The Litter-Robot Evo is the most compact Litter-Robot. An ideal self-cleaning litter box for smaller homes and apartments. While all three variants have a spacious opening, a ramp can be separately purchased to make entry convenient for senior cats or little ones just learning to get into the box. A new and interesting addition to the Litter-Robots is a physical control panel and an LCD display that flashes real-time updates about what’s going on in the box or who’s occupying it.
All three litter boxes in the Litter-Robot 5 lineup come in black or white colors and are available for preorder through the Whisker website. The devices will begin shipping on November 3, 2025.
