Imagining the future of camping, BMW Group subsidiary, Designworks, revealed a new lightweight concept camper and virtual reality experience, in partnership with American outdoor apparel company, The North Face, at CES 2019. BMW’s concept camper showcases the utilities of The North Face’s new innovative fabric called FUTURELIGHT. Made using Nanospinning technology, it is touted as the world’s most advanced, breathable and waterproof material.
Inspired by the 2008 BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car, BMW’s concept camper is made of a fabric outer shell, consisting of a flexible material stretched over a geodesic dome, demonstrating potential uses of the FUTURELIGHT fabric.
The Nanospinning process adds air permeability into the membrane of the fabric. The process creates nano-sized holes for porosity while still being waterproof, letting air move through the material and provide enhanced ventilation.

FUTURELIGHT kicks of a future of lightweight camping vehicles that’ll use fabric in the core. It will be first introduced in The North Face Fall 2019 product line.
