Canadian photographer Mackenzie Duncan has built a tiny house for himself in the backyard of his traditional home in Vancouver Island. He settled on making a 104-square-foot home to bypass the restrictions for building permits in the area. The tiny house includes a kitchen, living room and a loft bedroom. He also plans to add a bathroom with compost toilet, and solar panels to make it an off-grid abode.

There aren’t many amenities inside; even a TV is excluded from the tiny house. The kitchen is furnished with the basic cooking necessities such as two-burner propane stove, a mini-fridge and four plates only.

Upstairs is the main bedroom with a skylight to gaze at the stars right from the bed. The tiny house is made only for small gatherings and is primarily used by Duncan to spend peaceful time with his girlfriend and her dog.

Duncan created the tiny house for an alternate, minimal and low-impact lifestyle. He didn’t want a house filled up with unnecessary things, so he has kept it really simple. He told Business Insider that living small has its own challenges, but with some extra effort, it is well worth it.
