What to expect in a smart home? It’s necessarily not just controlling smart home devices with dedicated mobile apps, but there’s also a need to pair them so that they can interact with each other and help you with some automated routines. For this task, there are smart home hubs available in the market; however, most of these lack the ability to connect all smart home devices due to differences in each devices connectivity platform.

Improving inter-connection between smart home devices, Amazon’s home security company Ring has launched a new Works with Ring (WWR) program. This allows users to turn their Ring home security alarm system into a smart home hub capable of pairing devices powered by Z-Wave wireless technology. It can now talk to smart home products from Leviton, Yale, GE, EcoLink, Schlage, Kwikset, and many more.

Each device will connect to the Ring ecosystem through the Ring Alarm Base Station provided with the Ring Alarm Home Security Kit. For now, Certified WWR products can be directly controlled with the Ring App, but Z-Wave devices that aren’t certified with Ring’s program will have to be connected manually. Limited functions can be controlled with the app nonetheless.

The Ring Alarm Home Security Kit is currently available for a discounted price of $169 on the official website.
