On March 4, Swiss furniture retailer IKEA recalled about 970,000 of its KULLEN 3-drawer chests due to tip-over and entrapment hazards that can harm small children. They were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online through IKEA USA between April 2005 and December 2019 for about $60 each.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the furniture unit does not comply with the requirements of the updated version of the U.S. consensus standard (ASTM 2057-19) for clothing storage units. It is unstable and needs to be anchored to the wall. If not, it poses tip-over and entrapment hazards that may result in death or serious injuries to children.

The KULLEN 3-drawer chest measures 28 3/8 inches tall and weighs approximately 45 pounds. It was sold in black-brown or birch colors. The corresponding article numbers are 600-930-58 (birch), 501-637-54 (black-brown), and 803-221-34 (black-brown). The Article name can be located on the underside of the top panel, close to the front edge, after removing the top drawer.

If you have one at home, you are advised to stop using and get it to Returns & Exchanges at any IKEA location for a refund, or take home a free wall anchoring kit. IKEA is also providing a one-time, free in-home wall-anchoring service for consumers who intend to keep their KULLEN 3-Drawer Chest.
