The tiny house movement is growing in popularity in the UK because of high real estate prices, which are encouraging people to downsize. Tom, a 17-year-old teenager from Bristol, England is a recent example, who has built a tiny house from scratch spending as little as £6,000 (approx. $8k). He is an inspiration for those wanting to have a debt-free home in the UK.

For the last three to four years, he was continuously working to construct his very own tiny house. Set on a piece of land owned by his grandparents, the tiny house is made mostly out of reclaimed materials.

His carpentry skills (attained over education and apprenticeship) came in handy to build this tiny house, however, he told Living Big In A Tiny House that assembling the metal roof was the toughest task in the entire build.

The exteriors are clad in larch wood and the black-painted metal roof has a dorm window to achieve the English look. There is an outdoor deck and a utility box at the rear. He has smartly installed a rain-water harvesting system to reuse the water provided by nature.

Inside, there is a cozy seating area in front of a fireplace and a TV on the wall. The kitchen has wooden countertops and is equipped with necessities for cooking. A small dining nook with a fold-down table can also be used to work from home. There is also a small bathroom complete with a shower and toilet for convenience. Upstairs is a sleeping loft with multiple windows to bring in natural light and fresh air.

Reclaimed wood and salvaged materials have been eminently used in the construction, which allowed Tom to minimize the overall spending. The tiny house doesn’t have luxurious amenities but Tom has equipped with everything he requires for a comfortable and desired lifestyle.
