While having a swimming pool in your own backyard is considered a luxury, this fully transparent ‘Sky Pool’ hanging 10 storys above the ground will offer much more than a standard outdoor pool. Ballymore developers have envisioned the world’s first swimming pool bridge between two apartment buildings in London’s Nine Elms district.

Designed in collaboration with engineering firm Arup Associates, marine design engineers Eckersley O’ Callaghan and aquarium designers Reynolds, the 25m long, 5 wide and 3m deep sky pool will be made entirely of glass to let residents of the two buildings enjoy swimming 115-feet above the streets of London. Its sides are 200mm thick and the bottom is 300mm thick.. The acrylic pool will span the 14-metre gap between the two buildings.

Ballymore Group CEO Sean Mulryan said,

My vision for the Sky Pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering. I wanted to do something that had never been done before. The Sky Pool’s transparent structure is the result of significant advancements in technologies over the last decade. The experience of the pool will be truly unique; it will feel like floating through the air in central London.

The one-of-a-kind, transparent swimming pool is currently under construction and will be developed as part of the HAL-designed 2,000-home Embassy Gardens in the new Nine Elms quarter. It is modeled after an aquarium, offering ultimate swimming experience. All thanks to the swimming pool bridge residents will be allowed to swim through two luxury apartment buildings with utmost comfort.

Both these luxury apartments will also be topped by sky decks including bar, spa, orangery, and magnificent views of the Palace of Westminster.

The Sky Pool project is expected to be finished by the summer of 2017. We’re eagerly waiting for its completion and to see how it would look for real.
