Since its inception in 1931, Airstream has introduced a wide range of models, from the high-end Classic to the more accessible Basecamp. Yet every time the iconic American travel trailer manufacturer releases a new model to the market, it generates the same level of excitement and interest among RV enthusiasts as it did the first time, thanks to the brand’s unmatched legacy of quality craftsmanship.
The reason Airstream is once again garnering attention recently is the launch of its newest model, the World Traveler 22RB. First reported by Gear Junkie, the company’s latest model measures 22 feet long and 7 feet 6 inches wide. This sleek yet spacious trailer retains the brand’s classic aerodynamic shape, reminiscent of some of Airstream’s greatest models over the decades. Unlike many of the larger options in the lineup, the World Traveler 22RB is being marketed as a more budget-friendly entry point, with a starting price of $68,300 (excluding upgrades).
While Airstream doesn’t state it outright, the company’s website and promotional materials hint that this model is designed for those embarking on their Airstream adventure, making it ideal for first-time RV buyers and younger adventurers. No wonder the trailer is compact compared to Airstream’s larger models.
According to the information available on the company’s official page, the trailer boasts a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of just 4,500 lbs., fully loaded with gear, food, and essentials. This allows it to be easily towed by a variety of mid-sized SUVs, crossovers, and lightweight pickups, something many new-age travelers will appreciate for better maneuverability and accessibility.
Akin to other models in the Airstream catalog, the World Traveler 22RB features the iconic, rounded, riveted aluminum shell that has inspired travel adventures for nearly a century. One thing Airstream has done differently this time around is relocating the air conditioner (now beneath the curbside bed), thus “preserving a smooth, uninterrupted roofline that echoes the brand’s iconic silhouette,” the company states.
Another key highlight of the trailer is its dual multifunctional dual-pane acrylic windows. These lightweight windows open wide at an angle for excellent airflow, and they include integrated blackout blinds and screens that operate independently. “Pull down the screen to allow airflow, pull up the blind for privacy, or separate both to open the window completely, a unique feature not available elsewhere in Airstream’s travel trailer line,” Airstream notes.
This brings us to the interior, which has received a significant refresh. The interior features a minimalist, airy aesthetic inspired by Scandinavian design principles. This includes white walls, light laminates, and terrazzo-inspired vinyl flooring to create a bright, expansive feel. The layout is highly flexible, with a convertible front dinette/lounge area (that can sleep up to two) and a rear V-shaped twin bed configuration with notched beds for extra movement space and under-bed storage. It comfortably sleeps up to 4 people.
A little ahead is the galley kitchen. Spacious and practical, the kitchen comes equipped with a two-burner gas cooktop, a 12V refrigerator (with optional secondary fridge), and ample meal-prep space (optional microwave available). Equally important is to mention that a mid-ship three-piece dry bath provides a separate shower, sink, toilet, and integrated storage.
Overall, the World Traveler 22RB blends Airstream’s timeless style with lightweight construction, making it an accessible and appealing choice for those wanting to start their Airstream journey. Optional upgrades include a solar charging system, bedding kit, microwave, and more. For those interested, World Traveler 22RB is available for purchase at Airstream’s nationwide dealer network.
