“We are all mad here, I am mad.” This line by the Cheshire Cat defines the entire wacky world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. After publication in 1865, the book was adapted into a movie, with many modern adaptations since. The world Lewis Carroll created made people fall in love with the fantasy fiction all over again. And as they say, once you fall into this rabbit hole, you don’t come out as the same person.
We have grown up watching and reading the books and movies, have grown to love the story, and have resonated with Alice’s inner turmoil and the whimsical nature of Wonderland. However, Jaimie Kikendall and Ashley Zeirnke, of James Rae Designs, treated fans of the story to something beyond their imagination by creating an Alice in Wonderland-themed tiny house with a little love, chaos, and just a little madness.
Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, this adorable rental was a dream of Jamie. For so long, she had envisioned an Alice in Wonderland–themed Airbnb, capturing the gloomy, immersive side of the story. Once the property was acquired, Jamie and her partner created, designed, and self-built every minute detail in the house, attracting all the bonkers to experience the mad world of Carroll all over again.
This 1,014 square feet home, built in 1926, didn’t just glow up, but completely fell down the rabbit hole. Then one bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room is now filled with whimsical nods to the classic children’s story. From Alice’s hanging stockings, coffee-stained pages, and watches to saucers and tea cups, every detail is crafted for a unique experience.
The exterior of the tiny house is entirely pink, and through the pink door, you enter into the world that you have only seen on the screens and have imagined on the pages of the books. But inside, the imagination fosters. You enter the living room with elements like a photo frame of Alice, pink flamingoes, and pink-themed décor to fall in love with. Here, you can take a moment, close your eyes, and imagine yourself having fallen into the otherworld where nothing’s the way it’s supposed to be.
The living room seamlessly flows into the dining room. It is decorated with clocks as a tribute to the White Rabbit, a low-hanging chandelier, teacups, saucers, and pocket watches dangling from the ceiling. In the dining space, you and your partner can be Mad Hatter and March Hare having tea. No tea time could ever beat that.
From the dining room, you can tour the kitchen. It is fully stocked with appliances and storage. You can prepare your favorite “eat me” biscuits and “drink me” potion. How about some raw mushrooms to be cooked into soup? Alice would most probably eat them raw. The details, such as rose knobs, red cutlery, and the ceiling, seem inspired by the most notorious character, the Queen of Hearts, which makes the moment more engaging. It surely takes a mad artist to design all this, don’t you think?
Even the bedroom of this Alice in Wonderland-themed tiny house reminisces about the dark and shady Tulgey Wood, leaning towards the shadier element of the story. Imagine you wake up and find yourself surrounded by the residents of the forest, sounds like a real adventure.

Outside, the Queen of Hearts welcomes you to her enchanting garden. There’s a covered seating area adorned in pink and gold. The setup also includes red playing cards representing the Queen of Hearts. You will also find Alice’s legs, in her signature black-and-white stockings, hanging above. You and your significant other can sit here and resolve the issues of the heart, which Alice suffered gravely from. But, don’t you dare paint her majesty’s roses red, or she’ll get you beheaded.
The property is operating as a themed Airbnb, welcoming guests and enthusiasts for overnight stays and daytime rentals. It is currently hosted by Nick Cannon from United Real Estate. Sadly, the owner of this house is also willing to strip the decorations and restore the house to its former clean finish before closing. The tiny house is even up for sale for just $215,000 for interested buyers, so if you wish to preserve its unique, other-worldly charm, fork up the money.
This charming and fantastical Alice in Wonderland-themed tiny house is one of the best themed rentals out there, reviving nostalgia and childhood memories of Wonderland. “This isn’t just a themed Airbnb, it’s a fully immersive world where imagination takes over, and every detail and corner of the house tells a story, leading you further down the rabbit hole.”
