Internal combustion engines dominate the RV market, but electric and hybrid models are slowly gaining popularity. A new trend rising in this niche is e-bike camper trailers designed for easy. Currently, there are limited options on the market, but most feature a fixed boxy shape; however, Switzerland-based Alpencamper is looking to change that by introducing slide-outs to its bike trailer. This feature is helpful, especially for adding more usable living space, which is a major factor in determining a comfortable experience on the road.
Alpencamper is dedicated to making bicycle camping trailers, and its Eco Slide Out (ESO) model is one of its coolest offerings, letting you expand interior space only when you need. It is a three-season camper crafted from a lightweight aluminum frame and 3cm insulated composite panels. With an empty weight of 115 lbs (52 kg), it is lighter than most single-sleeper bike caravans you might find out there, including the ones by BeTriton.
Despite being lightweight, this bike camping trailer offers plenty of space for comfortable living. On the left side, it has a slide-out section that extends outward for adding about 20 inches (50 cm) of extra interior width. When this section is opened, the sleeping area expands to a total width of 55 inches (140 cm), which is actually wider than the beds found in the latest Volkswagen California camper vans, highlights New Atlas.
The slide-out does not extend along the entire side of the vehicle and is positioned in the middle, which can be troublesome for some in choosing the right sleeping position due to the tapered shape. It is the interior length of about 6.8 feet (208 cm) that ensures sleeping space, but occupants may need to change sleeping positions according to their height and other preferences. RV beds are often uneven or slightly tapered, so this kind of sleeping area in a bike-towed camper is normal.
The sleeping platform is elevated off the floor, creating 270 liters of storage space underneath. Here, you can also find a dedicated compartment for a composting toilet. The sleeping platform also includes a cutout that serves as a dining table/workstation on one side.
The Eco Slide Out bike trailer is suitable for solo cyclists who want extra living space at night. Its relatively low weight compared to many other bicycle campers makes it a practical choice for easy towing. The interior measures 2.08 meters in length, 1.40 meters in width, and 1.22 meters in height. This weatherproof cabin comes with a sleeping area of 1.40 x 1.96 meters, suitable for one to two people for a cozy overnight stay.

As for additional features, the Eco Slide Out camper trailer includes an openable plastic window with an integrated blind and insect screen, battery-powered ceiling lighting, four support legs for stability, a storage shelf, and a Weber coupling that ensures compatibility with a wide range of bicycles and e-bikes.
Alpencamper Eco Slide Out bike camper costs CHF8,350 (approx. US$10,675) on the official website and can carry about 70 pounds (32 kg) of your gear.
