Aqara is known as a manufacturer of affordable and reliable smart home products. A number of people keep an eye on its products and if you are one of them, the company has good news for you. Aqara has announced the global availability of the Aqara G4 battery-powered video doorbell, which surprisingly, is available on Amazon for a price tag of $120 right now.

After entering the US market in 2019, the brand keeps launching new products including the smart curtain driver launched a few months back. The G4 is the latest entrant to Aqara’s slew of smart home devices. It is an FHD (1080p) video doorbell with a 162-degree wide-angle view that captures a larger area in front of your house. With motion detection technology, the user gets instant notifications when someone approaches the door.

What makes this device special is its wide compatibility with third-party smart home platforms such as Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT, and the on-device AI to enable local facial recognition alerts and automation. The facial recognition feature is very useful as it can be used as a trigger to set up customized home automation scenes for family members and visitors. For example, the G4 will activate a welcome home scene when it recognizes a family member, and if it detects the postman, it plays a pre-recorded message.

Other highlighting features are support for Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video as well as local streaming to Amazon and Google smart displays. Being a HomeKit Secure Video doorbell, the user can monitor the home while being away using a Home hub. Moreover, Aqara looks forward to adding support for the new Matter standard via a future OTA update.

The video doorbell measures 5.57 x 2.56 x 1.20 inches and is recommended by the company to be installed on a porch or shaded area. The doorbell can last for about four months with a 6 AA battery pack, or through a wired connection.

The user can store videos locally using a microSD card (up to 512 GB) or on the cloud via iCloud or Aqara platform. Aqara offers subscription-free cloud storage of up to seven days. The Aqara G4 Video Doorbell is now available on Amazon brand stores in both North America (US, Canada) and Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK) as well as via select Aqara retailers, worldwide.
