The design world is slowly discarding the sharp, cold lines of traditional minimalism in favor of wholesome silhouettes and warmer shapes. At Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign 2026, the most visually arresting trend was the exploration of bulbous and fun forms. Seating took on exaggerated, oversized, and animated proportions at the design event, signalling the change.
This chubby aesthetic uses soft, rounded geometries to evoke an immediate sense of warmth, approachability, and unpretentious comfort. Here are four standout furniture pieces that brought playful, bulbous proportions to this year’s 3daysofdesign.
Fogia’s Bollo Lounge Chair (CPH Edition 2026)
Fogia’s iconic Bollo chair took center stage. Its design relies on a striking visual contrast: massively oversized, cloud-like cushions that look as if spilling over a deceptively slim, skeletal metal frame. It embodies the peak of the bulbous trend by maximizing plush, rounded volume where the body meets the chair while keeping the footprint remarkably light.
When it was launched in 2016, there were a lot of mixed feelings for it. Just as many loved it as hated it. So with that in mind we wanted to try to push the lines even more during its 10-year anniversary

Vitra’s Bascule Lounge Chair
Debuting to massive acclaim, the Bascule lounge chair by Berlin-based Studio Πlooks like a giant, invitingly draped jacket. It features incredibly relaxed, rounded, and slouchy proportions wrapped in a loose-fitting jacket-like upholstery that moves with the chair. The playful, casual exterior hides a brilliant internal counterweight mechanism that lets the bulbous form tilt dynamically as you lean back.
Bascule is a chair that reveals its qualities the moment you sit down. Its appearance communicates softness and Bascule delivers on its promise and even exceeds expectations, as the mechanism allows you to recline into an almost daybed-like position

Hem’s Puffy Lounge Chair
Hem expanded its famous Puffy seating family with ultra-textured new textile options. The chair features an explicitly balloon-like, plump quilt that spills over the edges of a tubular steel frame. It looks intentionally detached and wonderfully inflated, serving as a sculptural statement piece that prioritizes sensory softness.
Its generous, quilt-like construction creates a soft, enveloping seat that invites people to sink in, while the visible frame keeps the silhouette light and graphic. It’s a chair that feels playful and comforting, yet remains remarkably refined and enduring

Sancal’s Mimoso Lounge Chair by Note Design Studio
The Mimoso is a luxurious modular seating system featuring an oversized, duvet-style upholstery that casually drapes over a robust, solid base, creating a beautiful contrast between softness and structure. Aptly named after the Spanish word for cuddly or affectionate, it is crafted with deep, highly accommodating proportions that invite immediate relaxation. The program’s incredible versatility lies in its approachable modular components, allowing it to easily adapt into single-seater armchairs or massive, flowing L-shaped and U-shaped configurations.

These inflated, bulbous silhouettes are succeeding because they break the rules of rigid architecture. They inject a sense of humor and absolute physical relief into modern interiors, proving that high design doesn’t always have to take itself so seriously.
