A California-based company, Cosmic Buildings, is on a mission to build prefab homes that are energy efficient, comfortable, and in harmony with the surroundings. One such prefab is the Cosmic One, an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) with power-saving and generating capacity. It is sustainable and offers an off-grid capability with solar panels on the roof, a battery to make the unit net zero, and a water recycling function.

The Cosmic One ADU is a prefab home, which means its parts are manufactured separately and assembled at the location. The company builds prefabs with a vision to make them self-sustainable. Further stressing this mindful aspect, this particular ADU is designed to create cooperation between materials, space, and technology.

First, let’s talk about its beautiful exterior, crafted with cedar wood and aluminum. It also offers customization in black, copper, beige, or grey. The exterior features a large deck with additional living space and a large sliding entry door to keep the interior fully ventilated. Placing a lounge on a deck would be a great way to steal some moments for yourself.

Its 380-square-foot interior exhibits warm and earthy tones, with spaces filled with natural light. The flooring has been done in sustainably sourced white oak. The interior is well-furnished with a kitchen that is concealed in plain sight when not in use, a bathroom, and a convertible open space.

When you enter the ADU, an open space welcomes you. This space can be customized as a studio, guest lodging, or full-fledged home office. A work desk is next to the entrance for working peacefully and boosting productivity.

The concealable kitchen has a cooktop, a sink, a microwave, a refrigerator with a freezer, and a dishwasher. There are white-oak overhead and under-counter cabinets for storage. The bathroom is next to the kitchen and enclosed with a door. The bathroom has a vanity sink, a toilet, and a large shower.

The Cosmic One ADU is an exceptional backyard unit with ample interior and exterior customization options. This unit can also be used as a full-fledged tiny house on foundation. It is built to be low maintenance, VOC-free, and environmentally friendly with prices ranging between $279,000 and $419,000.
